Poppy

Poppy the Wombat

Like Mary, the place Poppy calls home was destroyed by fire. Fortunately Poppy sought refuge in her wombat hole and managed survive the devastation that occurred in her hometown of Buxton.

When the wildlife carer returned to her home and shelter where she cared for sick and injured animals, she had a feeling of great sadness. What had become of the wildlife that she'd had to leave behind? At that moment Poppy, an orphaned wombat living at the shelter, emerged from her nearby hole. Suffering from smoke inhalation, Poppy was all that remained of the wildlife carers home and work. Like so many of the animals that have been brought to the Sanctuary, her resilience and story of survival has won her a special place in the hearts of all Sanctuary staff she comes into contact with.
