Kevin and Jess reunite

Celebrating Healesville Sanctuary's 75th birthday recently seemed like a perfect time to reunite two old mates.

Kevin Mason has worked at the Sanctuary for 49 years and is its longest serving employee while Jess, the Wedge-tailed Eagle, has been at Healesville Sanctuary for 35 years, arriving at just two years of age - and the oldest Sanctuary animal.

Kevin started work at the Sanctuary as a young keeper. Born and bred in the area, Kevin met and married Marion, also a Keeper at Healesville Sanctuary.

Kevin partnered with Jess for 12 years in a unique bond between handler and one of Australia's largest raptors. Jesse has performed more than 120,000 flybys in the spectacular Birds of Prey presentation.

Set in Healesville Sanctuary's stunning outdoor amphitheatre, Birds of Prey is a thrilling aerial display demonstrating the magnificent flight and hunting skills of several iconic Australian species, such as the Peregrine Falcon, Black Breasted Buzzard, Barking Owl, and of course, Jess the breathtaking Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Diving and soaring with speed and precision, these Birds of Prey have visitors on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Presentations are free of charge and held daily at 12 noon and 2.30pm.
