If we lose the Leadbeater's Possum then we lose a piece of ourselves.
Victoria's very own faunal emblem, the beautiful and fragile Leadbeater's Possum is currently fighting for survival.  Due to the 2009 Black Saturday fires, populations are now severely fragmented from loss of habitat and suitable nesting trees.

Sadly, some pockets of Leadbeater's Possums have declined to fewer than 100, with the overall population declining from over 7000 in the 1980s to less than 2000 today. At this rate the future survival of the Leadbeater's Possum is perilous. With Australia currently experiencing one of the highest rates of extinctions in mammalian populations in the world, this is an all too familiar story.

At Zoos Victoria we are leading the way to action starting right here in our own backyard, in Victoria. We have committed to fighting extinction, starting with 20 priority Victorian species at risk of extinction. The Leadbeater's Possum is just one of these priority species that needs our help.
